Manual Online Patient Verification (OPV)

Online Patient Verification is a process whereby, before processing a claim with Online Claiming, the patient can be checked for eligibility to receive Medicare benefits.

Before you begin

The patient's Medicare Card and patient details are sent to Medicare Australia via Online Claiming and a eligibility response is returned immediately. The check is valid only for the day it is submitted.

There are a few ways in which you can perform an OPV check:

About this task

This method presumes a patient has been added to the Waiting Room, and that you have enabled online claiming.

Procedure

To Perform a Manual OPV Check:
  1. Locate and right-click the patient entry in the Waiting Room.
  2. Select OPV Check from the menu that appears. The patient's Medicare Card and patient details are sent to Medicare Australia.
  3. One of the following possible responses is returned immediately;
    • Details Validated

    • OPV Check Failed

    • Medicare Card or Patient Details require updating
