Resolving Claim Exceptions

After sending bulk claims to Medicare Online and requesting the associated processing reports,Medicare may return a processing report that contains exceptions.

An exception can occur when, for example:

  • The refund Medicare issue differs to what you claimed.
  • The patient's Medicare card has expired.
  • The practitioner is not entitled to claim a particular item number.

These and other exceptions must be resolved in Pracsoft in order for you to accurately reconcile your accounts. Resolving exceptions involves either accepting the exception, or editing and resubmitting the claim.

For exceptions returned by Medicare where a partial payment has been made, you must accept these exceptions - you cannot edit and resubmit them.
